Indian Employers Encourage Workers to Bike at Desk

Some Indian employers are encouraging staffers to get in their workouts at the same time they do their work. So reports Live Mint.

For Garima Mishra, human resources head of rewards at Development Bank of Singapore, “the cycle workstation is a good way to keep myself active despite spending hours at the desk.” DBS Bank India has outfitted the work desks at its new offices in Mumbai and Delhi with stationary bicycles. Other companies and startups in India also are outfitting their offices with bicycles at workers’ desks as a way to boost productivity. In addition to the bikes, some firms have built gym, yoga and meditation rooms.

CDK Global India, an IT and digital marketing firm specializing in the automotive retail space, originally did not plan to have a fitness area when it built its offices. Then about one year ago, it redesigned a cafeteria in a Pune location and a recreation area in Hyderabad with fitness stations after hearing from employees. “These spaces are very popular with employees,” said Romeet Kaul, associate vice-president, global real estate, CDK Global India. “We have partnered with Wellness Associates to manage our fitness centres.”
