Of the hotel chain’s more than 1,200 women employees in India, 25% are managers. The directive also follows Marriott’s introduction of its diversity and inclusion agenda in India last year. In the last several months, the hotel has hired women in sales, marketing and operations leadership and director roles instead of just relegating them to lesser roles in the front office, spa operations and communications.
“We have educated our workforce to sensitise them towards diversity,” said Gurmeet Singh, area director for human resources, India subcontinent, Marriott International. “This year, we have launched a practice to create mentorship relationships for high potential women leaders to provide adequate support to them personally and professionally.”
