A recent online survey from CareerBuilder found that job candidates are not fooling HR managers when they lie on their resumes. The survey of more than 2,500 full-time, U.S. employers from various industries (including 221 HR managers) also found that only 12% of HR managers are inclined to reach out to a candidate again if they had engaged in strange behavior during an interview.
About 40% of HR managers spend less than one minute reviewing a resume, while 19% spend less than 30 seconds.
Some of the biggest resume faux pas include one applicant who included a photo with all his pets; one who said he worked at Microsoft, but had no clue who Bill Gates was, a candidate who said he was a CIA spy during a time when he would have been in elementary school; and one who said his hobby is watching horror movies.
