HR Director Fired After Mocking Job Applicant’s English

A Washington state company fired its human resources director after learning that the director mocked the English of a Vietnamese man who had applied for a job. So reports KIRO 7.

The HR director for Everett-based Dash Delivery responded in broken English to an email from the applicant, Minh Huynh. Huynh’s 18-year-old daughter, Emily, then tweeted about the email, which led the company to fire its HR director.

Minh Huynh applied for a driver position. The HR director's response to Huynh “Let me tell you now. If you no speak English. I will send you home.”

“I looked at it and said, wait,” Emily Huynh says. “Why are you mocking my dad’s English?” It took less than 24 hours after Huynh tweeted about the email for Kevin Bus, owner of the delivery company, to send her father a letter apologizing for the email. Bus called the email “inappropriate and inconsistent with our company’s value.”
