You Can Leave Your Job – And Maybe You Should

It's a positive sign when we start to see articles and blogs about being able to quit a job voluntarily – instead of hanging on to an unhappy situation (if one has been lucky enough in recent years to have a full-time job) until the storm passes. So reports Entrepreneur.com.

With hiring approaching pre-recession levels and the unemployment rate inching down, it's perhaps time for employees to ask themselves if they're in their jobs – or on an unsatisfying career path – for the right reasons. The attached piece was originally posted on LinkedIn and lists some concrete reasons to contemplate whether or not things at work are trending the right way; or whether workers are staying put for the wrong reasons.

To paraphrase the author, if "yes" is the answer to some of the following questions, it may be time to contemplate making a move, because life's too short to not feel fulfilled:

  • Is your input valued on your team?
  • Does your supervisor ever say "thank you" for something you've done?
  • Is your boss spending the lion's share of his/her energy managing up instead of down?
  • Do you look forward to – or ever get excited about – going to work?
  • Can you see a viable future where you are?
  • Do you believe you can do something else – either job- or career-wise?
