While the challenges facing new chief human resources officers may seem daunting, there are tangible steps they can take to foster a positive workplace in 100 days. So reports Fast Company.

New CHROs should spend the first weeks crafting 30-, 60- and 90-day plans that are focused on outcomes, says Adrienne Gemperle, chief people officer at SoulCycle. Then they should "share with [their] CEO so they know where you are going to be spending your time," she says.

"In each of your one-to-ones, bring this back to reference and discuss progress and/or impediments," Gemperle says. "It's totally fine that new priorities emerge, but this allows you to always come back to what you set out to achieve together."

Listening more than talking and establishing relationships across the firm should be the top priority over the first 100 days, notes Beth Steinberg, chief people offer at Zenefits.

Matt Hoffman, VP people, Digital Ocean, agrees that the willingness to listen to other staff about what works and what needs fixing is crucial. "Coming in with a predetermined playbook, without genuine humility and a curiosity to learn about the company's history and culture, is never a good idea," he says.
