Tom Duffy, HR director for Blue Fountain Media, started out working in finance for a start-up fashion company in New York before agreeing to volunteer to handle that firm’s human resources responsibilities. The economics major is now charged with scoping out the best talent to help Blue Fountain Media grow and remain competitive.
He recommends anyone considering HR as a career to “have no preconceptions” going in. “Don’t assume you know everything about a candidate before talking to them,” Duffy says. “Because you can miss out on the best candidate, all because you didn’t like their resume.”
