HR Chief: Cubs’ Win Not Enough to Get Day Off

The Cubs’ World Series win after an 108-year drought was not enough to sway a suburban school’s human resources head to give staff a day off to celebrate. So reports The Chicago Tribune.

Some suburban school students had launched an online petition asking for Nov. 4 off, two days after the Cubs’ dramatic 8-7 win in 10-innings against the Cleveland Indians. One petition read: “The Students and faculty of our school should be able to experience the history we have made at the parade and rally tomorrow without being penalized by [Hinsdale District 86]. Let’s go Cubs!”

However, Domenico Maniscalco, chief human resources officer for District 86, said that the celebration 108 years in the waiting was not an excuse to call in sick or to use a personal day. "We had a lot of inquiries asking about it," he said. "It is an expectation to be a role model to our students. While the student (absences are) uncontrollable, we can control the staff attendance.”
