UK Tribunal Finds Accountant Made to Retire for Being Too Old

John Peters won $234,598 from a UK tribunal that found the former accountant for a lubricant company had unjustly been fired and discriminated against in an effort to get him to retire. So reports People Management.

The company, Rock Oil, wanted the now 69-year-old Peters to retire when he was 65 and had started looking for his replacement, Peters claimed. The firm said it fired Peters when he was 67 based on conduct issues.

Peters won the case in November. "When the claimant indicated that he did not intend to retire, the management trumped up charges against him in what can only be described as a threatening manner," the tribunal judgment found.
