One startup, Ideal, created an artificial intelligence (AI) solution with the ability to strip bias from the hiring process and that has automated some recruitment tasks to give human recruiters more free time. The AI program gathers data from a firm’s applicant tracking system, reviews who has replied, evaluates who shows up negative or positive, which candidates were hired and how they performed.
This holistic approach to evaluating candidates is a more efficient way to know if the person is the right fit. "It takes a 2D process and applies multiple dimensions to truly understand the application and make unbiased, extremely fast hiring decisions," says Ideal co-founder Somen Mondal. Ideal has helped one company, Indigo, go from reviewing 30% to 100% of candidates and to boost its candidate pool by 196%.
Another advantage to algorithms is that, unlike humans, they do not make decisions based on race, gender or ethnicity. "It doesn't look at those factors when making screening decisions," Mondal said.
