Ex-School HR Exec Sentenced to Federal Prison

A former school human resources director in Garland, Texas, was sentenced last month to two years in federal prison for his involvement in a visa recruiting scam involving hundreds of teachers. So reports The Dallas Morning News.

The court also ordered Victor Leos to pay $317,482 in restitution. Leos pled guilty in May to participating in the scheme where he collected kickbacks for improperly recruiting and hiring foreign teachers. He had faced up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. 

“Garland ISD (Independent School District) is appalled by the actions of Mr. Leos,” Alaina Smith, school district attorney, said in a statement before Leos was sentenced. “Mr. Leos betrayed the trust that the district, the community and the teachers he recruited placed in him.”
