Corpus Christi HR Steps Up Sex Harassment Review

The human resources department for Corpus Christi, Texas, is taking a tough approach in the way it tackles reports of sexual harassment. So reports KRIS 6 News.

“We’ve kind of re-vamped and we’re putting out harassment training at the forefront again, just to make sure employees are aware of the standards that we have in place,” says Steven Viera, the city’s HR head. There has not been an increase in reported incidents, but Viera’s department has been talking about the issue amid the intense national focus and has decided to make improvements locally.

One change will require city workers to undertake new sexual harassment training. That training will entail a review of city policies to ensure employees know what behavior is and isn’t acceptable. It also will provide information for anyone who has been a victim. “It’s not just a training on what not to do, it’s also what to do if you are being harassed,” Viera says. “And so we want to make sure that we go out there and we let them know, ‘Hey, you have an opportunity to come forward, and we encourage you to come forward and let us know so we can handle these issues quickly.”
