Former HR director Elizabeth Hodges resigned January 31 after she and the Aspen School District came to an agreement that she would quit "with no additional salary or severance payments beyond this date." Hodges was put on paid administrative leave in December following a background investigation of Hodges by attorneys for the school district.
Hodges had pled guilty to one misdemeanor count of deceptive business practices in December 2016. This past January, she wrapped up a two-year probation sentence in Missouri.
Hodges' conviction had stemmed from her selling the car of a deceased couple without reporting the sales' proceeds in their probate case. Hodges had served as the couple's estate planner.
Hodges earlier fought against pressure to resign from a parents' group, noting that her criminal conviction and subsequent disbarment in Missouri was part of a campaign to taint her reputation, as reported. She declined to fight the disbarment because she lacked the time and money, and instead made a career switch to HR.
