HR Director: Mayor Called Women Workers 'Witches Around a Cauldron'

In her federal discrimination suit, a human resources director of a Connecticut town alleges that her mayor has called women employees ‘witches around a cauldron.’ So reports the Hartford Courant.

Michele DiMauro, HR manager for the Middletown school district, is suing the city over unequal pay compared to male workers. She alleges that she faced unfair treatment when she brought up her concerns. DiMauro also alleges that Mayor Daniel Drew tagged her a ‘paper pusher.'

DiMauro alleges that she was paid “substantially less than comparable male employees who performed work that required equal skill, effort and responsibility and performed under similar working conditions.”
Drew slammed the allegations, noting that they “have been disproven in two independent investigations at a cost of more than $50,000 to the taxpayers.”

“I value our employees equitably and always have,” Drew says. “I have appointed more women to high-level positions than any Mayor before me. Our pay data show no disparities.”
