From HR to PeopleOps

A changing workplace has some in corporate America shifting toward a new way of seeing the traditional role of human resources. So reports Forbes.

So-called people operations is seen as a blend of human resources and operations. Andrew Gobran, PeopleOps manager at Doist, says companies have traditionally seen workers as people paid to do their job and replaceable if they are no longer considered valuable to the firm.

“With an increasing rate of innovation and continuously shifting market demands, a great product or service is no longer sufficient, as one day it could be thriving, and the next, obsolete,” Gobran says. “However, what never cease to lose value is an engaged, committed, and talented team of people and leaders who can take an organization wherever it needs to go. PeopleOps is responsible for investing in the engagement and development of employees, as people, which first benefits the employee, and as a result, the company as a whole.”

Evelin Andrespok, HR manager and PeopleOps team leader at Toggl, notes that the main difference between PeopleOps and HR is that the former “aims to understand employees holistically as individual contributors while the traditional HR mindset views them more as a resource to be calculated and managed for efficiency.”
