Douglas Dykes, who served as HR head for Cuyahoga County, submitted his resignation more than a year after being indicted on a felony charge of theft-in-office and other charges. Dykes pleaded not guilty and is set to face trial in April.
In his resignation letter, Dykes wrote that he quit to ensure the “sanity and health” of his family. He also noted that he did not resign because he believes he did anything wrong. Dykes had held onto his $180,000 a year position since he was indicted in January of last year.
Dykes is alleged to have illegally switched a $13.500 moving expense for a former IT official into a $15,000 signing bonus after that official did not move from Cincinnati to Cleveland to accept the county position. That official had agreed to repay the money as monthly installments after the switch was discovered as part of an audit in 2018 and found to be illegal.
