Mentorships Key to Elevating Women in Workplace

Leading companies embrace mentorship as an important way to elevate women in the workplace. So reports the Tampa Bay Times.

mentoring 2738524 640smallA workplace mentor can serve as a key ally in helping women overcome career challenges, learn how to deal with difficult work circumstances and understand the skills needed to advance their careers. The problem is that men have had an easier time finding those allies.

“There’s still a need to give women equal opportunities," says Rebecca Lee Harris, economics instructor at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. “There’s still some discrimination, particularly against minority women.”

The Tampa Bay Times’ Top Workplaces survey reveals that, of the 29 leading workplaces in Florida that responded to a question about the type of mentoring they offer, especially for women and people of color, 16 noted they have some type of in-house program.
