Firms with Racial Diversity in Management More Productive: Study

Companies that reflect racial diversity in both their upper and lower management ranks prove to be more productive. That's according to a new report from the Academy of Management.

diversity hand 1917895 640The study of high technology firms finds that “…organizations with high levels of racial diversity in both upper and lower management (i.e., high-high racial diversity congruence) realized superior productivity compared to organizations with low levels of racial diversity in both upper and lower management (i.e., low-low racial diversity congruence),” the study finds.

The study, however, also reveals that firms with greater diversity among their upper management compared with their lower management proved to be more productive versus firms that had greater racially diversity in lower management compared with their upper management.
