Workaholic Culture Leads Some to Feign Participation

A Boston University study shows that employees at one “large consulting firm” may be faking their participation in the company’s high-intensity workplace culture. So reports the Huffington Post.

Further, some of those employees who are projecting a false appearance that they are working extra hours may be receiving similar performance reviews as others who are putting in truly long hours. The article highlights some of the shortcomings of the workaholic environment, including its contribution to creating overly stressed employees that may, in fact, be less productive despite working more.

The column also notes that, perhaps, there is an overvaluation of the sheer number of hours an employee puts in, rather than their productivity during those hours, that contributes to the perpetuation of the workaholic culture.
