Bernard Coleman, 36, says he is the first person to hold such a role by a presidential campaign. The African American also performed in a similar role when he was human resources director for the Democratic National Committee for six years.
Inclusv, a group that helps political campaigns find diverse candidates, provided data to Huffington Post showing that 30% of Clinton’s 700 campaign staff is non-white and 52% are women. Among senior leadership, women comprised 54% and people of color comprised 34%.
“We want to have the most representative staff,” Coleman said. “We’re always trying to crush it.”
