Work Commute Costs More Than $3K a Year: Survey

Workers are shelling out more than $3,000 a year just to get to the job. So reports CareerBuilder.

The new online survey of 3,031 full-time U.S. workers in the private sector found that the average spend per month is $276 or about $3,300 annually. More than 80% say they drive to work, with more than 60% spending less than $25 a week on gas. While 72% brown bag it, more than 50% who buy lunch spend $25 or more a week. Daycare is a huge drain for 29%, who access this service–with more than 1/3rd of that group spending $500 or more a month on daycare.
