Reverse Job Fair Opens Doors for People with Disabilities

A Kansas county flipped the script with a reverse job fair that invited prospective employers to stop by job seekers’s booths this month. So reports the Kansas City Star.

The reverse job fair was a first for Johnson County and introduced employers to 25 people with disabilities eager to prove they could be great hires. Several government agencies put the fair together, including Johnson County Developmental Supports. That agency runs an internship program, Project Search, that gives interns a chance to rotate at different jobs over a nine month period.

“They totally have the skill set to do it; it’s just teaching everybody to be open-mined,” said Elizabeth Gibson, director of human resources with Mid America Rehabilitation Hospital, who has worked with a number of Project Search interns.
