An audit found that 140 educators need to renew their teaching licenses. “As far as our processes, it’s not just related to licensure, but various pieces of human resources,” said Deborah Story, HR director for Metro Schools.
By improving their processes, HR will be able to complete necessary paperwork, she said. The school district hired Story in September after the previous director had departed July 1, leaving the position vacant. The audit has helped her department become more proactive in dealing with lack of documentation.
Anna Shepherd, a school board member, said not having Story come on until September probably led to issues [last month when the state found three principals and other administrators without state licenses.
