Unfair Labor Violations, Union Petitions Up

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) says it has seen a year-on-year spike in reports of unfair labor violations as well as union petition filings. 

NLRBFrom Oct. 1, 2022 to Sept. 30, 2023, the agency reported a 10% increase in unfair labor practice charges filed at its 48 field offices, or 19,854, up from 17,988 in fiscal year 2022. Total cases filed with the NLRB in fiscal year 2023 were 22,448, also a 10% increase from the prior fiscal year, and the highest number filed since fiscal year 2016.

Also during the current fiscal year, 2,594 union representation petitions were filed with the NLRB, up 3% from fiscal year 2022.
