How Do You Know When It’s Time to Leave a Job?

Many of us have stayed at a job longer than we should have, which is sometimes obvious only in retrospect. The reasons can be compelling: It’s comfortable. Job-hunting is a nightmare. You can do the job in your sleep. You like your co-workers (most days). You don’t have the energy to change jobs right now. So reports Forbes.

So how can you tell when you're not being challenged enough, and your brains are starting to atrophy? There are some tell-tale signs that it may be time to consider a change:

  • Haven’t been given a meaty and challenging assignment in a while? It’s been too long since you were really asked to use your brain power and creative thinking.
  • You need to step up your game, but you don’t have access to the better players. In other words, you’re not learning much that’s new by people who can mentor you.
  • Your suggestions for improving or innovating the way business is done are being ignored. The higher-ups clearly do not appreciate your talents.
  • You’re not being intellectually challenged. The job has become too routine, and too familiar.
  • There’s no one left to share your good ideas with, and you have no desire to share them, in any event.

If any of the above sounds all too familiar, it may be a good time to start looking around.
