Hong Kong Workers Are Leaders in Wanting Workplace Flexibility

Hong Kong employees beat out their global counterparts in saying that they know what is best for them when it comes to where, when and how they do their jobs. So reports Randstad.

While eight in 10 workers worldwide prefer greater flexibility when it comes to deciding their work-life balance, 91% of Hong Kong employees say they know what is best when it comes to their work schedules. Nearly nine in 10 Hong Kong workers also say a flexible work schedule can boost productivity and job satisfaction.

The territory's workers also beat out workers in Singapore, Malaysia and mainland China, with "only 48% of Hongkongers [saying] that agile working causes pressure on their private lives as they do not know how to 'disconnect' from work," according to the Randstad Workmonitor report.

"This is lower than the regional average of 55%, indicating that Hongkongers are more likely to have better control over their work-life balance despite having easy access to work via digital devices," the research finds. "The research further suggests that Hongkongers want the freedom to work at another location or during a time that best suits their lifestyle and productivity as 85% of them are still required to work at the office during stipulated business hours."

The Workmonitor report researches global employment trends every quarter, with this report covering January and February and includes a minimum of 400 interviews conducted for each country.
