Amazon Opens Massive Headquarters In India

Online retail giant Amazon has debuted its largest headquarters worldwide in India. So reports inquirer.net.

Amazon, which first came to India in 2013, will employ more than 15,000 to work out of the 282 foot tall building in Hyderabad and include amenities such as Zumba classes. “For Amazon, India is very important geography,” says Deepti Varma, Amazon’s human resources director for India and the Middle East.

Amazon will go up against Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries and its own e-commerce platform. It also will have to contend with new rules that took effect in February, banning e-commerce operators from hawking goods from companies that they have an ownership stake in and from striking exclusive deals with sellers. These rules were introduced after traditional on-the-ground retailers complained that e-commerce players were undercutting them with lower prices.
