Woman Becomes Highest Paid CEO in Australia for First Time

Macquarie Group CEO Shemara Wikramanayake has become the highest-paid chief executive in Australia, a first for a woman. So reports Business Insider Australia.

Wikramanayake made more than A$18 million, according to a survey of the 50 top-paid CEOs in Australia. OpenDirector conducted the survey on behalf of The Australian Financial Review.

There were three other women on the list: Fortescue Metals CEO Elizabeth Gaines (A$5 million), Mirvac Group CEO Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz (A$4.8 million) and Coca-Cola Amatil CEO Alison Watkins (A$4.1 million). Wikramanayake had reached an earlier milestone in July of last year when she became the first woman CEO of Macquarie Group. She succeeded Nicholas Moore.
