Woman Heads to Prison for Lying on Her Resume to Land Job

A woman was sentenced to at least one year in prison after it was revealed that she lied on her resume to land a US$185,000 a year Australian government job. So reports CNN.

jail 1287943 1280A court convicted Veronica Hilda Theriault last month of deception, dishonesty and abuse of public office, finding that she fibbed on her 2017 resume for a chief information officer position. Theriault managed to work for more than a month at South Australia’s Department of the Premier and Cabinet where she earned US$22,500 in that time before she was fired.

Theriault pled guilty to all charges and was given a 25-month sentence, including a year of non-parole. The court found that Theriault lied about her education and prior work experience on her resume. After she advanced to the interview phase, Theriault pretended to be a previous employer during a reference check and offered “glowing feedback” on her performance.

While Judge Michael Boylan acknowledged during Theriault’s sentencing that she had dealt with mental health issues, he noted that the charges were “serious.”

“You fraudulently obtained employment for which you were paid a large salary and in the course of which you may have had access to sensitive material,” Boylan said.
