Employers Turn to Axe Throwing, Escape Rooms to Inspire Workers

Minnesota companies are turning to axe throwing and escape rooms as new ways to inspire their workers. So reports the Star Tribune.

For David Miller, general manager of Morrie’s Minnetonka Subaru, these team building experiences and others centered around game show competitions and cooking duels build cohesiveness. “Each one has its own lesson,” Miller said. “No matter what the event, at the end of it, the team was closer."

Other events and experiences that Twin Cities business have tapped include bartending competitions and dining in the dark. “These activities force us to use critical thinking, to be creative and innovative and to use our imaginations,” says Rue Dooley, a Washington, D.C.-based adviser for the Society for Human Resource Management. “They force us to communicate with one another and to do it under pressure—though the pressure is contrived and the consequences are benign.”
