Vermont Bank Offers Help to Employees Struggling with Student Loans

A Vermont bank is offering employees burdened by student loans some help in paying down their balances. So reports Burlington Free Press.

graduation 267885Full-time employees taking advantage of NBT Bank’s new student loan repayment program will receive $100 every month for up to five years. “Student loan debt is an issue that has impacted many of today’s professionals, yet about 8% of companies offer assistance for their employees,” says Catherine Scarlett, NBT Bank's chief human resources and ethics officer.

Other Vermont employers also have offered similar programs. In 2018, employees in SunCommon were able to forgo their 401(k) plans and instead receive employer contributions towards their outstanding student loan debt.
