The mega retailer is offering the benefit as it competes to woo over and keep talent with employers facing a tight labor market. It made the announcement earlier this month.

Target will offer more than 340,000 employees at its stores and distribution centers the option to select from 250 programs in over 40 schools and universities in the U.S. The new benefit will be made available as early as an employee’s first day working for the company and will free them from any costs, the firm notes.

“A significant number of our hourly team members build their careers at Target, and we know many would like to pursue additional education opportunities,” said Melissa Kremer, chief human resources officer at Target. “We don't want the cost to be a barrier for anyone, and that's where Target can step in to make education accessible for everyone.”

Walmart announced in July that it would pay the full college tuition and book costs for its workers at some schools, CNN reported.
