Ex-Colorado School District HR Director Files Discrimination Suit

The former human resources director for a Colorado school district filed a federal lawsuit alleging racial discrimination and retaliation for speaking out. So reports the Denver Post

Marisol Enriquez identifies the district superintendent, chief human resources officer and board of education in the suit. The district recruited Enriquez to help it deal with the fallout from a 2014 report by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights. That report cited the district for discriminatory actions against Latino parents, students and school district staff. More than 80% of the district’s students are Latino.

Enriquez alleges she faced harassment for travel expenses she incurred to recruit teachers and that she was harassed for being Hispanic. She also alleges that when she warned the chief HR officer by e-mail that the district may be failing to comply with an agreement it made with the federal education department. The next month the HR officer met with her and suggested it would be best if she resigned ‘sooner rather than later.’
