Ex-Deputy Alleges Sexual Harassment in Suit

A former sheriff’s deputy alleges in a federal lawsuit that she was fired as retaliation for reporting that she faced sexual harassment on the job. So reports AL.com.

Shelby L. Holt served as deputy for Madison County, Alabama, and filed her suit this month against the county and several officials. The suit allegations note that nude photos of a female deputy were shared around the sheriff’s department among other allegations.

The suit names Sheriff Blake Dorning, former Chief Deputy David Jernigan (currently Madison police chief), Madison County director of personnel/human resources Jermie Howell, Madison County deputy director of personnel/human resources Pam Flory, Sheriff deputy Sgt. Stacy Rutherford and others.

Rutherford, who served as Holt’s direct supervisor, according to the lawsuit, sent Holt nude photos of himself. Rutherford created a “sexually hostile working environment” for Holt, according to the suit. Holt was fired Sept. 30, 2016. "Male employees of the sheriff's department were treated better, more favorably and differently than was Holt and other female employees of the sheriff's department," the lawsuit notes.
