The disciplinary action against Sgt. Andrew Rodney relates to violations from May last year against Kelly Baerga. Rodney supervised Baerga, a Latina, who came back to work in August after months on sick leave while her department investigated the allegations. Baerga, however, asked to work as a patrol officer upon her return, relinquishing her liaison role for now.
Interim police chief Jason Thody was critical of the then-human resources director, Cherese Chery, who recommended that Rodney only be required to undergo retraining. “If anyone reads that HR investigation and believes it was thorough and complete and came to the conclusion it was acceptable and accountable, I’d like to speak to that person, because I don’t agree with that,” Thody said.
