Ex-Employee Says HR Manager Outed His HIV-Positive Status

A former Colorado hospital employee is alleging that a human resources manager made his HIV-status public. So reports The Aspen Times

The former worker at Aspen Valley Hospital in a lawsuit claims the hospital fired him in January 2015 after he filed a compliant to the Office for Civil Rights and the U.S. Department of Labor. The hospital declined to comment about the suit.

“There is certainly a persistent stigma that goes along with the diagnosis of HIV-positive, so the fact that the hospital’s senior HR person and privacy officer felt this was appropriate cocktail fodder is beyond outrageous,” says Mari Newman, attorney at Denver law firm, Killmer, Lane & Newman.
