“There’s so much talk about finding a supportive workplace as a woman,” says Ursula Mead, founder of InHerSight. “And it’s really important that you’ve done your homework.”
Reviews left on InHerSight show that the top factors most likely to determine how happy a woman will be at a company are salary, whether it is a safe and respectful workplace, and how responsive upper management and human resources are to concerns.
But recruits may not glean much about these three areas during a job interview. The co-founder of another women-focused job site, Fairygodboss, suggests for women concerned about work-life balance to schedule a visit at the end of the work day to see how employees react. “If I walked out the door at 6, would I get the stink eye?” says Georgene Huang, co-founder of Fairygodboss.
