The county has stripped the requirement for a college degree from 81 of its jobs after a review of those positions. Moving forward, those positions will call for candidates who have “any combination of education and experience in specified skill sets,” officials note.
In all, the county has 375 job classifications, human resources director Julia Yager, says. The 81 jobs not requiring a college degree include agricultural resources specialist, budget analyst, communications specialist, human resources program manager, law enforcement records manager and wildlife mitigation specialist.
The HR manager position used to require a bachelor’s degree in human resources administration, plus four years of professional experience, with two of those years in a supervisory role. Candidates now are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent, and eight years working experience, including two years as a supervisor. “By removing degree requirements in these classifications, Boulder County increases advancement opportunities for the current staff and attracts a more diverse pool of applicants,” the county notes in a release.
