A genuine and transparent line of communication between employees and managers will lead to more productive salary negotiations. So reports Money.

Employees should clearly communicate their value, as they too often assume their company fully realizes their worth. Employees must also know the principle decision makers and the company's “compensation philosophy” in order to ensure a smooth and productive negotiation.

It is also important to be reasonable when making a request for a raise and to be prepared to negotiate with items outside of pay.
