Tennessee HR Fails to Track Sexual Harassment

Tennessee’s department of human resources is failing to track sexual harassment complaints from state agencies. So reports The Tennessean.

The HR department doesn’t review what’s in the complaints or the outcomes to determine if disciplinary actions differ from one agency to another, said Lesley Farmer, director of equal employment opportunity and assistant general counsel.

An analysis by The Tennessean found at least 460 sexual harassment complaints that state workers filed from 2010 through 2016. It found varying sexual harassment policies among agencies as well as different types of punishments.

Farmer defended the state government, which has about 40,000 employees, noting that there is no sexual harassment concerns. “I don’t think overall it’s been a problem,” she said. “But if it does, or if it comes to something, we do have a means to address those issues. We do that through training, whether it’s for employees or for our managers.”
