Boredom a Big Reason for Increase in UK Worker Turnover

More than one-third (36%) of human resource directors in UK businesses report seeing turnover up in the last three years and boredom is cited as one of the main reasons for the exodus. So reports Online Recruitment

A survey of HR directors conducted by Robert Half UK found that 35% said employees left due to boredom, while 31% and 30% said workers quit because of dissatisfaction with work-life balance and a poor outlook for advancing their careers, respectively. 

Firms are deploying retention strategies including flexible working schedules, competitive compensation, career development and training, promotions and counteroffers. But most are not tackling boredom.  

"At the end of the day, employees are a company’s most important resource, regardless of its size or sector,” said Phil Sheridan, senior managing director at Robert Half UK. “Losing staff because they feel unhappy and unmotivated can be avoided if businesses develop a strategy which incorporates staff wellbeing initiatives alongside career planning and, above all, nurtures a positive company culture."
