School HR Director Resigns After Domestic Violence Arrest

The former human resources director for the Santa Fe Public Schools in New Mexico resigned following his arrest for an incident involving his wife and her boyfriend. So the Santa Fe New Mexican reports.

Stephen Fresquez resigned last month from his $97,500 a year position a few days after police arrested him on suspicion of attempting to harm his estranged wife and her boyfriend.

“I certainly don’t want to carry that on the back of the district because it’s not fair to them,” Fresquez said in an interview. From outside his wife’s house, Fresquez pushed in an air conditioner that was mounted to her window, a police report notes. The air conditioner fell onto her bed and the wife’s boyfriend said Fresquez then reached inside and tried to hit him. The boyfriend was not injured.

Fresquez said the air conditioner was already loose and that it fell onto the bed after he accidentally hit it with his elbow. He denied trying to hurt anyone and has contested the charges.
