HR Director Taps Social Media to Help Hilton Workers Unemployed After Wildfires

When the human resources director for the Hilton in Santa Rosa, California, learned that 130 of the chain’s hotel workers there suddenly became jobless due to wildfire damage, she took to social media for help. So reports KTVU.

“Feel free to share this post,” Lenora Olson wrote in a message listing the various skills from the employees who used to work at the Hilton Sonoma Wine Country in Santa Rosa before the wildfire destroyed it. Olson’s post was passed around by more than 7,000 people.

“We have about 130 employees that worked there as of last Sunday,” Olson wrote Oct. 12. “Today we met the displaced employees to answer questions, offer assistance and give them resources to assist them in their job search.”

Olson received suggestions on where the unemployed workers could find jobs. She then followed with an update to her original post. “Thank you so much to the 7,500+ caring people that liked/loved/etc., shared, commented with hope + kindness + support, and reached out to me directly with job leads and kind words,” Olson wrote. “Words cannot describe how much it means to me.”
