Ex-HR Manager Sues PA Biz for Racial Discrimination

An ex-human resources manager at a Pennsylvania insulation company has filed a lawsuit against his former employer alleging they axed him when he refused to fire a black employee. So reports Fox 43, citing court records.

Christopher Shaffer sued Elizabethtown-based Appalachian Insulation Supply alleging the company ran afoul of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act. Shaffer’s suit alleges that shortly after joining the company in August 2014, he learned that CEO William Brinser Jr. “refused to permit people of color to be employed by the company.”

The suit also alleges that Brinser called black and Latino people derogatory names. The company hired a black driver in December 2015, but despite passing the pre-employment tests, Brinser told Shaffer to fire the new hire for no other reason “than the color of his skin,” the suit alleges. Brinser’s actions were “outrageous and cannot be tolerated in a civilized society,” the suit notes.
