Ex-Indiana School HR Director Sues Alleging Sex, Race, Gender Harassment

A former human resources director for a school in Indiana filed a federal lawsuit against the district alleging harassment based on sex, race and gender. So reports WISH-TV.

Kathy Ray had started as HR director for Muncie Community Schools in July 2015 and worked for the district for more than 30 years as a teacher and administrator. Ray alleges that school superintendent Steven Baule started “a course of inappropriate, severely offensive and intimidating conduct” that led to a hostile workplace when she was HR director, her lawsuit notes.

Ray said her role as HR director obligated her to take action against Baule even though she knew he had tried to fire others who had run up against him in the past, the lawsuit notes. She quit Sept. 8, 2016.

Deborah Feick, school board president, said in a comment to WISH-TV that the board “has implemented formal and informal processes for persons who believe that they have been subjected to unlawful harassment.”

“When the allegations asserted in Ms. Ray’s Complaint were brought to the attention of the MCS School Board, they were promptly investigated and found to be unsubstantiated,” Feick said. “MCS denies the allegations in Ms. Ray’s Complaint and will proceed with defending against the lawsuit.”
