Robert Kenneth Hume was accused of turning in forged military discharge papers to support his bid to be the fire chief for Marietta, a suburb of Atlanta. Those documents noted that Hume earned a Silver Star, which was bogus, and showed him at a higher rank in the U.S. Army, also not true, according to an arrest warrant.
The HR director had served in the military and thought something was suspect when he went though Hume's application documents for the job, Marietta spokeswoman Lindsey Wiles said last month.
"He did human resources in the military as well, and he is quite well-versed in what (discharge documents) should look like," Wiles said.
Soon after, Hume turned himself in and was charged with first-degree forgery, a felony, and false statements as a military veteran, a misdemeanor, The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reports.
