Gwendolyn Carder responded to a report posted on Facebook by WSB-TV 2 in June about an Athens-Clarke County police officer who was fired for hitting a suspect with his patrol car. The suspect was a black man.
"Thugs deserve it," Carder posted in the comments' section. "If a family member so be it. However, I do not have any thugs in my family that I am aware of. Seems to be people of color who are the problem."
A UPS spokesperson confirmed to WSB-TV 2 when contacted that they fired Carder, who had worked 25 years for the company. "UPS has no tolerance for hate, bigotry or prejudice," a company statement reads. "The company embraces diversity and inclusion as one of its core values. The comments Ms. Carder shared in response to WSB-TV's story do not reflect UPS's values or culture."
