Hiring a chief learning officer to focus on hiring, managing and retaining talent may seem redundant when you already have a chief human resources officer, but some say it is necessary in a time of intense competition for talent. So HR Technologist reports.

"A CLO at the head of a talent development team displays an unequivocal organizational commitment towards training a modern workforce," writes HR Technologist contributor Chiradeep BasuMallick.

Companies focused on tapping future leaders from within "must invest in a CLO who could identify possible candidates equipped for future upgrades, commence with robust L&D programs, and design a L&D-led succession plan," BasuMallick notes.
