Darshall Coleman, of Philadelphia, noted in his December 13 lawsuit against ArcelorMittal that the pink monkey was left at a dumpster near his office in 2014. Other incidents happened in 2017.
Coleman went to the human resources manager after alleging that someone wrote "KKK" and a racial epithet on his office door, and spilled oil on a stairway near his office October 31. After telling HR he felt unsafe, he was put on administrative leave.
Company officials later asked Coleman if he had done all the actions that he alleged. On December 8, the company sent Coleman a letter informing him that they could lay him off for his absence from work, according to the suit.
"ArcelorMittal is an equal opportunity employer and takes discrimination allegations very seriously," ArcelorMittal spokesperson Bill Steers said in a statement. "The company has launched a full investigation into the matter but unfortunately due to the pending litigation, we are unable to comment further at this time."
