The 29-question online survey helps companies with their “cultural competency,” said Art Johnson, founder of management consultant Infinity Systems. The firm started promoting its cultural competency survey, what Johnson calls a diagnostic tool, in February after a year of developing it with the help of organizational psychologists and other staff from the University of Minnesota.
"Organizations are running all kind of different initiatives, from establishing enterprise resource groups to having internal advocates," Johnson said. "But the question you have to answer is: are any of these things moving the needle?"
In late May, after the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, which sparked huge interest among companies around unconscious bias and systemic racism, Johnson’s survey gained a lot of traction. "We began to show up on the radar for many organizations," he said.
